in 2023, after 17 years serving as senior pastor, Rev. Tom Roberts resigned. Finding someone to follow in his footsteps was no short order. Pastor Roberts had grew the church from a handful of families, to a thriving congregation! Most noteworthy is that he led our church through a global pandemic. When the church called for a pastor, we sought someone with a passion for the Word of God, heart for missions, burden for outreach, and experience in NextGen ministries. To that end, we called Dr. Aaron j Robinson, and asked if he might consider coming and serving as our pastor. The mission and vision of the church made West Highland the perfect place for Pastor Robinson and his family to call home. On August 4th, 2024, our church family voted to name Pastor Robinson our new senior pastor. He took office on September 1st.

Rev. Aaron j Robinson, PhD

Since his sophomore year in high school, Pastor Robinson has served in leadership within the local church. It was during his time serving in his teenage years, that he began to develop a passion for ministry. Owing to his family's struggle in poverty and transient living - and seeing the aid that came from the local church, partnering with the church became a personal mission.

After nearly 20 years of practical ministry work, Pastor Aaron had a desire for formal training in theology. He enrolled in Grace Bible College, in pursuit of his Biblical Studies degree, and later attended Moody Theological Seminary. He graduated summa cum laude from Moody, with his Masters of Divinity degree in Pastoral Ministries. After Moody, he completed his PhD at Bangor University (Bangor, Wales). His thesis is A Theology of Faithful Witness, based on a reading of the book of Revelation.

Pastor Robinson is a student of the Word of God, with a passion for preaching, teaching, and developing Kingdom leaders.

Producer... Professor... Pastor

Before coming to serve at West Highland, Pastor Robinson served in various ministry roles. Owning an operating a digital multi-media firm opened the doors to build relationships with churches and ministries around the country. Those relationships have shaped much of his ministry philosophy today. His media experience can be seen in his presentation of the gospel, every time he preaches.

His passion for the local church extends to the university. Since 2019, Pastor has served as a professor at Moody Theological Seminary. Many of his students consider him more than a professor, but a pastor to the student body. He teaches and develops courses for Moody's Masters and Doctoral programs. He has also taught in other seminaries, including Northeastern Wesleyan University in New York, and Southeastern University in Florida.

His pastoral experience includes serving in different roles, including youth, worship, media, and associate positions in his former church. Prior to his post at West Highland, Pastor Aaron served as pastor and chief operations officer at The Power Company Kids Club, a child-evangelism organization in Metro Detroit, serving more than 1,500 children and youth in Detroit, Pontiac, and Suriname.

Husband and Father

Aaron and Karen met just after high school as counselors at an Assemblies of God kids camp for inner-city ministries. They soon became close friends, and not long after, became husband and wife. Since their dating years, they served together in ministry.

Today, they have been married for more than 25 years, and have five children to their union, 3 young adult sons, and two young daughters. Being a homeschooling family, the Robinsons love roadtrips and just about every kind of board game.

For we are the workmanship of God, created in Christ, for good works, which God prepare in advance, that we might walk in them.
